1966: Incredible- Werner Bernd Dies in a Storm
Then, on April 12th, 1966, something shocking occurs. Dr. Werner Berndt is killed in an accident aboard the Italian luxury liner “Michaelangelo”.
The liner is en route from Genoa to New York when it encounters a severe storm. Most of the passengers are under deck in the dining room when the ship is hit broadside by a huge wave. Herr Berndt, however, happens to be in his stateroom and is thrown through the air by the force of the impact.
Whereas all the other passengers get off with a mere scare, Dr. Werner Berndt suffers a fatal injury and is pronounced dead by the ship’s Doctor. His son Michael, who had driven him to Genoa, learns about his father’s death on the radio while driving back to Germany.
